Over 24,000 Houses and Buildings Torched in Early 2023

At least 81,899 houses and buildings (including religious buildings) have been torched and destroyed since the coup two years ago. Of that number, almost 30% (at least 24,138 houses and buildings) were burned down in the first six months of 2023.

‘Operation 1027’ and Concerning Context

Three Brotherhood Alliance (3BHA) forces launched the military ‘Operation 1027’ on October 27, 2023, and simultaneously attacked junta bases in northern Shan State. Within a few days, the Allied forces had seized four towns, including Chinshwehaw, on the China-Myanmar border, and claimed control of Hsenwi.

Situation Report on ‘Operation 1027’ and China’s Investment Projects

Since the launch of ‘Operation 1027,’ the Three Brotherhood Alliance (3BHA) has captured territories in northern Shan State where several of China’s projects are located. According to ISP-Myanmar’s data up until December 27, the 3BHA now exercise full control over six project locations as well as partial control over further seven project locations.

Nationwide Conflict and the Contest for Dominance

Chin State and Tanintharyi Region experienced armed conflicts in all of their townships while in Sagaing and Mandalay Regions, conflicts erupted in 34 out of 37 and 25 out of 28 townships respectively.
