China has confirmed the detention of Min Zin, an American-Myanmar scholar and founder of the Institute for Strategy and Policy Myanmar (ISP-M), accusing him of espionage and endangering national security. Beijing says the researcher was placed under criminal measures after being detained in Kunming near the Myanmar border. The US has acknowledged the arrest and says it is seeking consular access. China has not publicly presented evidence supporting the allegations.

An American scholar who writes about Burma, also known as Myanmar, and Chinese foreign policy was arrested by authorities in China on suspicion of spying, the Chinese regime’s foreign ministry said on Friday.
